This Week’s Puzzle…

While visiting SIL Grace & BIL Ronnie south of Houston, they took us to Quintana Park.  We really enjoyed the walk and the scenery.  There were some man-made pools for the birds to enjoy a drink or a bath.

Wednesday’s Puzzle

I love the Great Blue Herons, and usually post what I think are pretty pictures.  They aren’t always pretty, though.  Sometimes they have a bad hair day…

And here he is as a puzzle.  Click anywhere on the puzzle below to begin.

Wednesday’s Puzzle

I like how the Roseate Spoonbill on the right is making a heart shape.  Here they are as a puzzle (click anywhere on the puzzle to start):

A Puzzle

I can’t call it “Wednesday’s Puzzle” because, well, you have probably noticed it’s Thursday.  Yesterday’s visit to Paradise Pond yielded some interesting Great Blue Heron photos.  The late-afternoon sunlight was catching this particular bird.   He had his eyes focused on something…

Then decided he needed a better look:

Doesn’t he look strange?  Look at his little plume feathers sticking straight up from his head.  He looks like a wholly different bird.  So, your mission today, if you decided to accept it, is to put Mr. Peepers back together again.  Good Luck.

Puzzle Day

It’s been a fun and busy time — today is our “crafting day” and I have 20 people signed up to make a little cover for the purse-sized tissue packet.  I made three different ones from three on-line patterns, and none of them fit the current size of the tissue packs, and they all gaped open.  When I have time, maybe I’ll post the tutorial for my “new & improved” version.  They are such a simple little project, so I hope all goes well today.

And I bought a new camera!  Hopefully this afternoon I will have a chance to go to the birding center to try it out, side by side, against my old one.  Details to follow.

But for today, here is a puzzle for you (and for me) for a red-eared slider.  He just had his eyes and nose out of the water, and he was HUGE:

Wednesday’s Puzzle

There was a Green-Winged Teal on this bit of fallen reed, and this Northern Shoveler came along and took over this (apparently) prime piece of real estate.  I don’t often get to see the shovelers’ feet, and they are so nice and orange.  Here he is as a puzzle:

Wednesday’s Puzzle

We’ve enjoyed watching these red-eared sliders at Paradise Pond, and even at Leonabelle Turnbull birding center once in a while.  This guy was close enough to get a really good look at him, and here he is as today’s puzzle:

A Ducky Puzzle

Usually the males of various bird species are the gorgeous ones, and the females are … brown.  This female Green-Winged Teal Northern Shoveler wears brown very well, and I think she is so stunning…(see comment by Leigh, I originally mis-identified this lovely duck)

that she is this week’s puzzle (see? she’s all quacked up):

Wednesday’s Puzzle

When it’s time for a puzzle, I’m always wishing I would have saved a good picture for Wednesday.  This week I found one that I took on Sunday that I hadn’t posted.  This is the same Great Blue Heron that was primping and preening.  All the turtles and birds were soaking in the rare (lately) sunshine.  Here he is as a puzzle (this cut is pretty easy):

This week’s puzzle…

YellowstoneWaterfall

I can’t say “Wednesday’s Puzzle”, since it’s already Friday!  I was looking through some older pictures, and started going through my Yellowstone pictures from July 2008.  What a wonderful visit that was, althoughh my photos don’t to justice to the beauty of Yellowstone.

This is the Lower Falls, 308 feet tall, seen from Lookout Point. And here it is as a puzzle:
