A Puzzle
March 4th, 2010 by Sue HeckerI can’t call it “Wednesday’s Puzzle” because, well, you have probably noticed it’s Thursday. Yesterday’s visit to Paradise Pond yielded some interesting Great Blue Heron photos. The late-afternoon sunlight was catching this particular bird. He had his eyes focused on something…
Then decided he needed a better look:
Doesn’t he look strange? Look at his little plume feathers sticking straight up from his head. He looks like a wholly different bird. So, your mission today, if you decided to accept it, is to put Mr. Peepers back together again. Good Luck.
Puzzle Day
February 24th, 2010 by Sue HeckerIt’s been a fun and busy time — today is our “crafting day” and I have 20 people signed up to make a little cover for the purse-sized tissue packet. I made three different ones from three on-line patterns, and none of them fit the current size of the tissue packs, and they all gaped open. When I have time, maybe I’ll post the tutorial for my “new & improved” version. They are such a simple little project, so I hope all goes well today.
And I bought a new camera! Hopefully this afternoon I will have a chance to go to the birding center to try it out, side by side, against my old one. Details to follow.
But for today, here is a puzzle for you (and for me) for a red-eared slider. He just had his eyes and nose out of the water, and he was HUGE:

Wednesday’s Puzzle
February 10th, 2010 by Sue Hecker
There was a Green-Winged Teal on this bit of fallen reed, and this Northern Shoveler came along and took over this (apparently) prime piece of real estate. I don’t often get to see the shovelers’ feet, and they are so nice and orange. Here he is as a puzzle:
(I don’t know if I’ve used this cut before; it’s called “Crazy”.)

Wednesday’s Puzzle
February 2nd, 2010 by Sue HeckerA Ducky Puzzle
January 28th, 2010 by Sue HeckerUsually the males of various bird species are the gorgeous ones, and the females are … brown. This female Green-Winged Teal Northern Shoveler wears brown very well, and I think she is so stunning…(see comment by Leigh, I originally mis-identified this lovely duck)
that she is this week’s puzzle (see? she’s all quacked up):

Wednesday’s Puzzle
January 20th, 2010 by Sue HeckerWhen it’s time for a puzzle, I’m always wishing I would have saved a good picture for Wednesday. This week I found one that I took on Sunday that I hadn’t posted. This is the same Great Blue Heron that was primping and preening. All the turtles and birds were soaking in the rare (lately) sunshine. Here he is as a puzzle (this cut is pretty easy):

This week’s puzzle…
January 8th, 2010 by Sue Hecker
I can’t say “Wednesday’s Puzzle”, since it’s already Friday! I was looking through some older pictures, and started going through my Yellowstone pictures from July 2008. What a wonderful visit that was, althoughh my photos don’t to justice to the beauty of Yellowstone.
This is the Lower Falls, 308 feet tall, seen from Lookout Point. And here it is as a puzzle:

Wednesday’s Puzzle
December 30th, 2009 by Sue HeckerThe last puzzle of 2009! I looked through a lot of photos trying to decide what to choose — an Alaska picture? Texas? People? Birds? How about: None of the Above!

Meet Sampson, SIL Grace’s & BIL’s Ronnie’s mammoth cat. I can’t begin to describe how big he is. Well, I could show you, but those pictures are on another computer. Trust me, he lives up to his name (plus he lives in Texas)!
Because this is winter break week for a lot of kids, I’m posting an easier version of the puzzle first, then a tougher one. If you have a child who’s trying this out, remind them to look for the edge pieces first!
Click on the puzzle of your choice to begin. Have fun!

Completed Top, Puzzle, & a Reminder…
December 23rd, 2009 by Sue HeckerI’m pushing it down to the wire, but I did get Lynn’s top completed last night. Since she sometimes stops by my blog, I’ll just show a peek at a favorite block:
A Reminder: With Christmas Eve and Christmas Day practically here, check your cameras for a charged battery, a memory card (sometimes I forget mine in the computer), and it would be good to erase the pictures on your memory card so you don’t run out of room!
And since it’s Wednesday, we need a puzzle. We’re going back in time a couple of days to those fun Cedar Waxwings.
And if you haven’t done one of these puzzles before, just click on the puzzle to begin. I just KNOW everybody has lots of extra time today! Right. Maybe you need to get someone out of your hair for 15 or 20 minutes — just call them over to the computer right now and challenge them to complete this puzzle!
