Design-Wall Monday

The past two weeks have been very productive ones!  I have half of my “Big Star” (or “Dashing Star”) quilt sewn together.  I love the secondary design that appears when you add the flip-and-sew corners to the blocks, together with the cornerstones in the sashing.  You get the nicest little shoo-fly blocks.

The stars are made by a speedy half-square triangle method.  The pattern makes 25″ blocks but I scaled mine down a bit to make 22″ blocks (worked better with fat quarters).  Fabric is Moda Blackbird in Meadow.  This is an out-of-print fabric but I was able to find enough here and there.

Missouri Quilt Company has a video on how to make this quilt, and they call it “The Big Star Quilt”:

Fons & Porter also sells a download of the star quilt pattern, and they call it “Dashing Stars”.

And in the Fun Handwork Department:

Last week, a member of our daytime stitching group, Mary, invited us to participate in a workshop day where she taught her small candle mat pattern made in wool and wool-felt.  It was so much fun!  Here is my finished mat:

It does take more than a day…we did some prep before the class, and then continued with some stitching and decorating on our own after the class.  Mary’s fabulous designs are available here:  DesignAndBeMary .

Thanks for stopping by!
