Design Wall Monday

It’s been a busy week, and it’s all centered on UFOs.  This is my favorite UFO, having made the top in 2007.  I know that because it’s based on a pattern in Fons & Porter’s January/February issue called “1910 Nine-Patch”. I loved the antique look of this pattern and decided to make it. Then I realized the 9-patch blocks finished at 2 1/4″ square.  I enlarged the pattern to 6″ (finished) blocks, and I love it.  This quilt is going to Niece Summer.

I used shirtings for the lights, and then assorted darks.  I am quilting it with Jodi Beamish’s Daisy Swirl panto, one of my favorites for quilts that have some plain space.  The daisies show up so nicely.  I am ready to do the hand binding, and it will be done this week.  Woo-hoo!

I have had this top done since 2009!  It is Judy Laquidara’s Bears in the Farmhouse pattern that she shared in a quilt-along of that era.  I used some of the Minnesota shop hop fabrics by Moda, for the centers of the bear paws, and the rest was from stash.

I am quilting this one with a panto that I decided was too widely spaced, so I am doing some free-motion quilting in the negative spaces.  EEEK, always scary to experiment.  I’ll let you know next week how that comes out.

  1. I really like that first quilt, Sue. As usual, it’s all about the fabric selection, and you did a nice job.
