Whatcha Reading…with Judy Laquidara

Judy L added another Linky day…Whatcha Reading on Tuesdays…and I’m trying hard to remember to post.

Like Vicki W, I “read” with my ears.  Vicki said that on her blog, and I love that phrase.  Since I started listening to audio books, it’s revived my love of reading!

This week I’m still reading a bit of fluff:  Royal Flush by Rhys Bowen, a Royal Spyness Mystery.  It’s narrated by Katherine Kellgren, and she does an excellent job.

I have a credit with Audible and I’m contemplating which book on my Wish List I should get next…  The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, Angela’s Ashes, The Secret Keeper, or the Secret Life of Bees.  Which one would you choose?

  1. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a wonderful story of courage and endurance told through letters. I did not realize that Guernsey Island off the coast of England had been occupied by the German’s during WWII. There is so much history that we never learned in school! It is a quick read/listen and I hope you enjoy it.

  2. Do try to listen to The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo. It is hard to get into all the character introduction in the beginning but once you get past that it is an excellent book. It took me 3 times to get past the introduction of characters but then I was hooked and could not stop. I got the other 2 books that follow The Girl and made short order of them. He was an excellent writer and it is a shame those 3 books are all we will ever get from him. I spent months trying to find a book as good as those 3 and failed.

  3. I listened to Angela’s Ashes and really enjoyed it because Frank McCourt (the author) does the reading so you get the full accent and when he goes into his little “ditties” you’ll actually have the tune vs. if you were reading it and having to guess what the tune is.

  4. I probably wouldn’t choose any of them, though I’ve heard they are all good. I noticed they had The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and that was a good one our book club read several years ago.

  5. I love audio books but I’ve been sucked in to McLeod’s Daughters on Netflix while I sew and haven’t been listening to books. I’m ready to go back to books now. 🙂
I’ve read Angela’s Ashes-great book but none of the others. I’d maybe choose The Secret Keeper.
