And sometimes it is.
I had to start out with a nice photo, so I could give a warning to you before you scroll down. (squeamish alert!)
While I was at the Birding Center in Port Aransas yesterday, the alligator made one of his rare appearances. He’s at least nine feet long, and lives the good life, being the only ‘gator in a peaceful place with lots of wildlife.
It was late in the afternoon, and apparently I was there just in time to witness “dinner time”…and everybody and every creature needs to eat.
I realize this picture isn’t standard pretty-blog fare, but I was pretty excited to capture this photo.

I think the “gator” was just giving the turtle a lift to shore….
That photo is awesome! It looks like there is a light in the alligator’s throat.
yikes! is that a turtle he’s eating for dinner? I would think the shell would be a bit tough to digest…
Yes, that is a turtle. I was reading today about the alligator’s diet, and they commonly eat turtles. They crush the shell so they can swallow it. They are capable of digeting anything they eat, including bones and shells. Also, they only need one meal per week, so hopefully the rest of the turtles are safe for a few days!!
That’s a good shot of the alligator. Actually – he looks almost fake! 🙂 It made me think of the ride at MGM or that type of place in California where they take you in the shuttle over the pond and suddenly the “Jaws” shark is coming at you. Chomp.
Wonderful creatures in their own way:)
Wow – amazing shot!
Pretty amazing to witness ‘gator enjoying dinner!
WOW! Not many have captured a picture like this. Good Work!
