Garden Visit

I have no greater feeling that summer has passed me by than when I am looking at the wildflowers.  The summer’s heat has sucked the life right out of them.  And me too, a little bit, although I am beginning to rebound.

There seems to be fewer bugs and bees than in previous years, but it’s probably because it’s later in the season and the flowers aren’t tempting them to come to this little patch of wildflowers.

I did see a number of these bright red little dragonflies today.  I see at least one most every time I’m out, but they don’t usually sit still long enough for me to get a photo.  They are white-faced meadowhawk dragonflies.  I saw a female by the front door not too long ago, and they have lighter coloring.  Some pix of some males:

Here he looks light he’s walking a tight rope:

And ready for take-off:

Hope you’re enjoying what’s left of summer.  The Minnesota State Fair started yesterday, so I’ll have some quilt photos to share in the next couple of days.

  1. I would be happy to send you some bugs! We have lots. Your photos are amazing. I’ve got to take some time to learn to take close up shots like these.
