In July, 2010, while photographing dragonflies, bees, assorted bugs in the wildflower area behind our home, a beautiful monarch butterfly stopped by and literally posed for me. It’s one of my favorite photos I’ve taken.
And I follow a number of bloggers with Google Reader, probably about 35 right now, and one of my very favorites is Vicki Welsh at her Field Trips in Fibers blog. Vicki is a very accomplished quilter, and she has turned her attention to doing beautiful fabric dyeing. She has a shop on Etsy as well, and will do just about any custom dyeing you would like.
What fun to see my monarch butterfly picture and Vicki come together! Vicki has been taking various photos and pulling a color palette from colors you didn’t even notice in the photo before. Then she accurately dyes gorgeous fabric to make these beautiful sets (palettes) of fabric.
Click HERE, and check out her Monarch fabric palette. I love it!

Sue, it’s a gorgeous picture and I love the palette and fabric Vicki created using your picture.
The material is gorgeous! Wonderful to see spring colors.
Love all your photos but this one in particular is outstanding! The detail you captured leaves me in awe! What fun to have Vicki choose this as the basis for her April palette. Look forward to seeing what you do with your new camera.
