This is it, my 500th post! Why a give-away? Well, this blogging thing just wouldn’t be any fun if nobody stopped by and nobody ever commented. This is a way for me to say thank you to those who frequently stop by, as well as those who might be stopping by for the first time.
If you’re a quilter in Minnesota, you are probably aware of the state-wide shop hop going on. Something fun that they do is make available a Moda line of fabrics created just for the Minnesota hop. I stopped in my favorite quilt shop, Quilt Cove in Eagan, Minnesota, yesterday. Even though it was Day 12 of the hop, they had plenty of fabric in stock.
I wouldn’t have thought to mention that, but I was on the Moda site yesterday and people outside of Minnesota were wondering where they could get the fabric. Well, Quilt Cove would be an excellent place to start! The prizes — WHAT ARE the prizes, you ask?
“A LITTLE BIT EXTRA” PRIZES: The first 30 people to comment will get a little charm that’s part of the Minnesota hop. Sue (the owner) at Quilt Cove gave me 30 charms — 5 of this year’s snowflake, and 25 of last year’s bobbin. Thank you, Sue! More prizes are more fun, don’t you agree?
3RD PRIZE: Remember a few days ago I asked for suggestions for prizes? (No, Carol, it isn’t a sports car!) Candice mentioned my photographs. So 3rd prize will be an unframed 8 x 10 print of my current favorite photo, a monarch butterfly on a butterfly weed (of course without the copyright info).
2ND PRIZE: Don’t nod off yet — it’s getting better. Remember that Moda Holly Taylor fabric I mentioned? 2nd prize is a charm pack of forty-two 5″ squares (a very nice mix of lights, mediums, and darks — you’ll like it no matter where you live):
There were a lot of nice comments this week about the drunkard’s path quilt I’m making. A number of you thought this would be difficult to make. It isn’t. Really. REALLY!
I used the Elisa’s Backporch curved acrylic templates, I followed her instructions for cutting and her easy technique for sewing those pesky curves (you wouldn’t believe how easy it is), and followed her layout. This is a FAST quilt, fat-quarter friendly (takes 20 FQs — not provided — I know you have some in your sewing space)!
1ST PRIZE: The 7″ template set AND the 3.5″ template set, AND a small-diameter rotary cutter needed to cut the inside curve on the small template (you’ll gouge your template if you don’t use a small one):
The fine print:
- Only your comment on THIS post will count as your entry into the give-away
- Only one entry per person, please
- The silver-tone charms will be awarded to the first 30 commentors on this post
- 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be chosen by a random number generator
- When you fill out the comment form, please enter your e-mail address so I have a way to contact you if you’re a winner
- At midnight, Monday, August 16, comments will close. The winners will be determined Tuesday morning and posted Tuesday afternoon, August 17; I will also send e-mails to the winners.
- Good luck!
Later this week I am going to try and convince the skeptics how easy this curved-piecing method is, tell you what my most-searched-for post is, and update you on my progress on stitching the drunkard’s path blocks together and getting this quilt finished.

Wow, those are awesome giveaways, even minus the car! Love your new blog layout too.
I’m so jealous about the shop hop! Your own Minnesota Moda fabrics?!! You lucky girls! What a generous giveaway. Congrats on the 500th post, that’s a lot of work!
Another milestone for your blog. Congrats.
Patrick
Congrats on reaching 500! I’d love to live close enough to enjoy a shop hop; Maine has one, but I live so far north that it would seem like I’ve gone out of state to attend! hehe.
Love the look of your drunkard’s path. I”ve always wanted to make one in cream and pink…just a two fabric one…hope I win those templates!
Congratulations on your 500th post! A statewide shop hop is a big endeavor. I don’t think Calif could handle it, besides, we’re broke! Your quilt is gorgeous. Keep up the good work.
Congratulations! 500 posts is quite an accomplishment and commitment. I am originally from eastern South Dakota so I love to see what’s going on “back home”. Thank you for this chance at your giveaway!
500! How fun! Congrats! I love the variety on your blog!
Your blogs are so interesting it’s hard to decide my favorite: the quilts or your photography! How do you have the time for it all??? Shortly I’ll be heading down to Clinton for the mission quilting but they are just simple & plain, the main emphasis is usefulness. Did you see the Hmong (I think that’s what it was) booth at the St. Cloud Quilt Show? Any idea where those blocks can be purchased? Anyway, congratulations on your blog and keep posting!!
Minnesota looks like a great place to be a quilter. I just signed up for the Eastern PA Shop Hop to be held in November. It’s always a blast to get to those places that are just a little too far out of the way for regular shopping. Good luck with yours. Love your blog. kathryn dot laposata at gmail dot com
Wow what a great giveaway! Congratulations on your 500th post!!! Thanks for entering me
Love the new layout! Very fun idea with the posts! I’m excited to see the drunkard’s path review. I made one block once, and if memory serves it really wasn’t that hard!
Hi Sue,
I was just at the Huston Quilt Show website. Did you know they have a photography contest this year at the quilt show. Registration is due September 15, so there’s still time. Go for it!!!
Your circle quilt looks great. Take care. Joan
Awesome prizes Sue. I love your blog and check it every day.
Boy, would I love to win the first prize, or the second prize, or the third prize. But the best gift is a fun blog to read, thanks.
Hi Sue,
I haven’t gotten to any shops this and would love to win. I love your blog.
I see my husband posted his comment already but have to get in on the action myself. Even though I’m not a quilter, the bird photos are great. Also love the new blog layout too.
I haven’t tried curved piecing yet, but I love the look of drunkard’s path. Congratulations on getting to 500 posts!
Congrats, Sue! 500 is a big milestone! Curved piecing isn’t as hard as we all make it out to be IMHO…I’m curious to know how this method works for you!
You really are celebrating! Five hundred posts is a big deal. And you photos and knowledge of them is always interesting. Keep up the great work. How lucky you are to have fabric made just for a state shop hop. And it’s realy nice fabric too!
500! Congratulations. Thanks for sharing in the pleasure. Any of the prizes would be fun. That photograph is particularly beautiful.
WE ARE ALL AT DAY STITCHERS ( RIGHT THIS VERY MOMENT) AND I HAD TO USE THE COMPUTER FOR SOMETHING ELSE-SO FIGURED I’D COMMENT ON YOUR MOST AWESOME WEBSITE. JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER!! IF NOT A SPRORTS CAR, I’LL SETTLE FOR A NEW BERNINA SEWING MACHINE! AW, COME ON! YOU KNOW WE ARE BFF’S!! HUGS, KATIE
All those prizes are really great–hmm–maybe the butterfly print would be the best! A print by Sue Hecker “before she was discovered!”
All of your prizes sound great, but I knew they would be unique. I love butterflys and have been seeing a lot of Monarks lately. I really like the butterfly button!! I am THANKFUL for the 500 posts, because they really make my day. I always look forward to seeing what you have on there. Take Care and keep the posts coming.
Wow, that’s a lotta “give”! It also reminds me that I need to get that color palette done of that butterfly photo. Where does all of my time go now?
Congrats on the 500th post! I always love stopping by to see what you are doing.
I saw those fabrics in magazines and was jealous of everyone living in Minnesota- they are all so pretty! Congrats on #500! I love the butterfly button- I assume it’s one of your pictures?
Whew! I made it! I get so lost in web-surfing, or just replying to my emails, that I lose track of what I went on the Web to do. Or is that just another senior moment? Nice to see everyone again at Daystitchers, and see the beautiful blocks people make. Going there every Wednesday is such a respite for me. Not that retirement is difficult–just too cluttered. Not really what I expected at all. Gotta go–Jeopardy is on!
can’t believe I made it into the first 30! congratulations on reaching the big 5-0-0.
Love your blog and I love curves, too. There are fun!
Congrats on 500 posts! Wow that’s amazing! Wonderful prizes too. Thanks for a chance to win.
I don’t know how I have missed the great Minnesota fabric! Thanks for sharing this wonderful information!

Congratulations on Blogging 500 posts! Great giveaway! Love all the prizes! My husband is from Minnesota. I didn’t know there was a fabric line for Minnesota! The things you learn reading blogs. Wonderful!
I’d love a chance to win something. Always good to add a little fabric or a new pattern into the mix. Congrats on reaching 500, I just made it there myself!
WOW, 500 is an awesome number! Congrats, and I agree with you, the people who look in keep us going on the blog. Here’s to 500 more. :-}pokey

I can’t wait for the next 500! I love visiting you!!!
Congratulations on reaching this milestone!
wtg with 500! Very impressive, and a very nice giveaway too! My first attempt at a full sized quilt was to try a drunkard’s path, I was 16, and used cotton poly perma press. What riot! Never did finish it though. Perhaps it is time to try again!
I LOVE THIS PAGE. KEEP IT GOING. BEAUTIFUL
PICTURES.
My first visit – and my first post on a quilt site.
Love quilting. Soooo gratifying to take scraps of fabric and turn them into something useful, beautiful, and something that someone will cherish for a lifetime.
Happy Quilting!
Wow, congratulations on 500 – quite a milestone! And what a fabulous giveaway. Count me in please.
Wow – 500 posts! I just started a blog and I have 2 posts. Have some more things to figure out and love to look at other blogs to give me ideas. I like your blog, by the way. Those prizes look great and also love the butterfly print. That’s another thing I need to work on, getting better pictures of nature.
Have a great day!
Hugs,
Trish L.
Way to go! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the chance to win this lovely prize.
