When I was out taking pictures of buggy critters the other day, there were quite a number of Monarchs, plus another butterfly I couldn’t identify. Every once in a while, though, I would see a flash of blue on a butterfly. It was a little smaller than a Monarch.
Sometimes I would get a brighter flash of blue, then it was gone.
Finally I got a good look at the “blue” top side:
After searching high and low on the ‘net for blue butterflies, to no avail, I finally stumbled across this guy’s identity: a Red-Spotted Purple butterfly.

oh that’s pretty! i’ve never seen one of those.
We’ve had a lot of Swallowtail Butterflies on my butterfly bush this week… also found a couple of the ST caterpillars on my celery plant nearby… but I can’t find them today – sure hope a bird didn’t have it for lunch.
Here is a cool site to help identify bugs…
Although I do have to say that after 10-15 minutes of looking through pictures I have to stop. Makes me a little sick to my stomach to get my brain overloaded with images of bugs… LOL
Check out whatsthatbug dot com
I know some folks don’t like links in comments… just replace the dot with a . and you’ll be on your way
I’m not associated with the site – just use it on occasion to figure stuff out
