We always seem to see these American Coots when we’re in Texas. They are quite distinctive looking, and sometimes their black feathers look like black velvet. It’s their red eyes that are so unsettling though.
This guy was munching his way through the foliage in the water. That’s one thing I’ve noticed about birds is that they seem to spend most of their waking hours searching for food.
