What’s On My Design Wall?

Judy Laquidara has added another fun accountability day.  Mondays, it is What’s On Your Design Wall, and we can add a link to our post here.  (Judy also hosts Stash-Busting Sundays.)

So what’s on my design wall?  Nothing!  I don’t have a design wall, but it’s on my to-do list, and I will have one in the next week or two.  So this week I’m answering a different question:  What’s On Your Gammill?  (yeah, I know nobody asked me that question, but here goes anyway)

I am hard at work playing “beat the calendar”, quilting my entry into the fabric challenge at Minnesota Quilters’ show that is in Duluth next week.  I am quilting it with this really pretty thread that has a little sheen to it and a very subtle variegation.  It’s a Sulky thread, 100% cotton.  I am having a little breakage, but not so much that I’ve torn ALL my hair out.  I am doing what some people call “headbands”.  I call it a peacock feather meander.

It’s a medallion-style quilt, 76 x 91 (what was I thinking???), using Ricky Tims’ bright fabrics that have a batik look to them.  I added several more actual batiks to the mix.

The last day for submission is Friday (although Pam B. and I are submitting ours tomorrow night), so by next Monday I can post a photo of the finished product.

I wanted to share a couple other photos with you today as well.  Yesterday Niece Kyla graduated from high school.  There was no room to sit, so I stood in the back of the gym, next to the wall (and I was grateful for that wall!).  I knew pictures were going to be a challenge because I just brought my little camera and it seemed like I was a mile away.  Here is my first shot, taken with flash:

I knew it would be bad when I saw the flash go off.  Flash is only good for a few feet, so if I wanted a picture of the back of the band, this would have been great!  (Remember that when you’re at a concert)  Then I suppressed the flash on the camera, and this is what I got:

Not exactly a wonderful picture, but at least it isn’t dark!  And to get a closer photo of Kyla, I had to be obnoxious and scoot closer when she was lining up to get her diploma:

She’s a very special lady, very near and dear to my heart, and I”m not just saying that because her name is Kyla Sue!  That’s just a bonus.

In case you’re interested in learning more about the features and settings on your digital camera, I’m posting a one-day-a-week tutorial on cameras each Friday.  If you are interested in catching up or just checking it out, you can click on the “Photography” tag under “Categories”  on the lower right-hand size of my page, or you could click here for the first one on close-focus and the second one on zoom and flash.

Thank you, Judy, for an opportunity to take stock of where I’m at once a week, and to check in on others’ progress as well.
