Sue’s Favorite Things Give-Away – Tuesday

SORRY, THE GIVE-AWAY IS OVER.

If you were to walk in my front door, it wouldn’t take you long to notice some of my favorite things.  This is part of the top-of-the-cupboards landscape in the kitchen:

I do love my teapots.  I’m mostly a coffee drinker, but teapots are so interesting and every one has a different story to tell.  Some of these are from TJ Maxx, some are souvenirs from vacations, some were gifts, and a very few others are collectibles.  I love the TJ Maxx ones just as much as the rarest ones.  They are all special to me.  Don’t tell DH, but last I counted I have more than (?) teapots.  That’s quite a few for basically a coffee drinker!

When I do have a cup of tea, I have a favorite tea.  It’s a Celestial Seasonings herbal tea called Bengal Spice (no caffeine, so it’s good in the evening).  My Aunt Bertha introduced us to it in Texas a few years back, and at the time we couldn’t find it in Minnesota so she would send it to us!  Now I can buy it at Target.  It’s best with a drizzle of honey.  Which brings us to today’s addition to the give-away basket (still just a virtual basket!):  A box of tea and a box of cookies!

Even though there are duplicates of everything and two baskets will be given away, from this point on I will just show one set.  So far in each basket:  Clover fork pins, Mary Ellen’s Best Press, and tea and cookies for a nice quiet break time!

The fine print:  1.  Give-away runs Sunday 4/26 through Sunday 5/3.  2.  You may enter once each day by posting a comment on that day’s new give-away posting (that’s what THIS is).  3.  Each day I will add an item to each ”basket” (there will be two); to have the most entries in the drawing, check back and add a comment each day.  4.  There are two baskets because there will be two names drawn on Monday May 4th.  5.  Be sure to include your e-mail when you make your comment so I can contact you if you are one of the winners!  6.  I will close the comments on this post at midnight CDT (sorry, West Coast, but that’s the latest I can stay awake).  Also at midnight CDT the next day’s give-away post will come up, so if the comments are closed here, go to www.suehecker.com/blog (unless it is after May 3rd — then you’re too late!).

It was fun to read yesterday’s comments about your projects!  In today’s comment, please share if there’s something that you enjoy collecting.  (Don’t share with the group that you have a priceless collection of the Czar’s Faberge eggs in your home…)   And thank you to all of you for playing along!

Sue

Now you are getting some good prizes. Put me in the contest. My collection is fishing equipment. I have some old lures that are over 50 years old. I now have two tackle boxes, one with the old stuff and a new one with the stuff I will be using when i go fishing this summer on the new boat.

    collections…you mean besides fabric???
living in an apartment doesn’t give me much room for collections, but i do have some nice bits of china and what-nots handed down from my grandmothers.

that tea and cookies looks like a wonderful addition to the basket. YUM!!!

About the only thing I really have a collections is my fabric lol. I do love Fairies though! I am slowly getting a collection of them together. Oh and I have a collection of my Great Grandmother buttons which I cherish. My hubby has a collection of fishing poles, does that count? lolol

I am a tea drinker. My current favorite is Revolution Acaci berry green tea. I collect glass measuring cups and bowls. Weird hun? I have old ones I picked up at auctions for very little money and once in a great while I will buy a new one.

My, aren’t we all up early this AM!! I have a small collection of owls of various types that I’ve had for many years. I also like Hull pottery and have a few pieces both old and newer, the old pieces were from my grandmother (however one broke :( ) & one from MIL and the newer ones I bought. Would like to buy more but either can’t find or can’t afford!!!

Rabbits! I have rabbits everywhere–I think they multiply when I’m not looking. If you come to visit, you are greeted at the door with lawn ornament rabbits painted a lovely chocolate color, and rabbit welcome mats. There are rabbit figurines, stuffed bunnies, and pictures on the wall. Rabbit dish towels, dishes, calendars, and clothing. And, a nice stash of rabbit fabrics.

The things I love to collect are Miniatures. I have always liked very small things and it’s probably why I like making small/miniature quilts. I have miniature items all over the place. Some sewing related some not. I have a wicker box from when I was a kid that has my “treasures” in them that I collected then. So many memories in there too. My prized piece is a miniature Porcelain Japanse doll in a kamono that is only 1 1/2 inches.

The other thing I collect is Cat fabrics!

I agree with others’ posts….*besides fabric* (?!?!!)….I have a collection of teacups. My mom and grandmother both had collections, so mine started with parts of theirs. Fun memories of the grownups using them after every Sunday dinner….
And Bengal Spice is one of the best!
    Thanks, Sue!!

I collect small ‘items’ from my travels. These are not the same items but represent each place I have been. (Mini lighthouses from each lighthouse visited, stacked dolls from Bulgaria, a tea set from Romania, small ceramic Dutch Delft Shoes from Amsterdam, a mini Eiffel Tower from Paris,a thimble from Germany, and the list goes on) My curio cabinet is quite full so I need to find another one or quit traveling. (Just so you know – My husband’s company sends us to Europe or I don’t think we could afford it.)

I collect children, or rather, they collect around me. I have four so far and would like to get several more :)
But really, fabric and yarn are among my biggest collection. I also have plastic horses from my youth that decorate the really high shelf in my sewing room.

What a great teapot collection! I especially love the one paited with bananas and dots!

  13. Kerry says:

I used to collect miniature pianos. But my storage area for these filled up and I stopped collecting. Now I just collect life size ones, apparently. :)

  14. Tracy says:

I used to collect everything. Rocks, stuffed animals, pennies, little figurines. But I ran out of room for all of this. I have stopped collecting, but still have my collections. Every year when we go through our storage area in the basement my husband gives me a hard time as he has to sort through a rock collection, a penny collection, and bags of stuffed animals. All collecting dust.

I’m so glad to see your cupboard art……….I decorated mine also and most people here thought I was nuts to have a display above my cupboards. But anyway, I collect hand crocheted table runners, doilies etc…….you would be amazed the number of families that just sell this stuff on rummage or auction sales……..so I put them to good use.

It’s been so much fun reading what everyone collects! I collect fabric too! I collect sewing machine knick knacks. In the motorhome, I collect magnets of places we have been. I’m trying not to collect things but sometimes, you just have to. ;-)

Elephants have always amazed me and so I started a collection of them. I have several and they all have a special meaning for me. I only collect elephants with the trunks turned upward as that means good luck. Since I have so many in my collection I now have to really love the figurine before I buy it. I may need another curio cabinet!

  18. Lori in SD says:

I collect “Angel things”. Angel plaques, an Angel wallhanging I made, Angel pins, even an Angel children’s book. I also collect old dishes and kitchen gadgets. These are best when I knew the person who owned them before me. Handwritten recipe book in German from my husband’s great grandmother. Enamelware. An antique rocker from my girlfriend’s father. And, I have a small herd of vintage/antique sewing machines. Lots of treadles, a few handcranks, and several vintage electric I sew with all the time. Those old black Singers. Yes, I have a love for them too. One from my husband’s grandmother, one from a lady across town who moved to the nursing home. One from my childhood friend’s mother. I guess you could say I’m into “nostalgia!”

  19. floribunda says:

Mostly I collect fabric! But I also have a long-standing assortment of rhinos scattered around the house, dating back about 40+ years.

I collect teacups and teddy bears from a friend who is a wonderful teddy bear artist.

  22. Jim (DH) says:

(?) TEAPOTS !! You let the cat out of the bag. Now I might have to count them as it might be more like 50. If you looked in my shop, you might think that I collect screwdrivers (I really don’t but I have a bunch). Now screwdrivers might be a good idea for a give away prize.

  23. Love the yellow teapot with the kitty. I collect leaves. Love pressing them and using in some of my work.

  24. Dave Hecker says:

Good idea Dad! I’ll take mine with very little OJ

  25. carla says:

Other than fabric, I’d have to say we collect playing cards from the different places we visit. Although last summer on our 44 day, 25 state drive across America, we decided we weren’t going to buy playing cards at each stop.

  26. Betty says:

Let me see…now what do I collect…you have seen all my collections, Sue…so I have to be honest here…Coke things, Precious Moments, Teddy Bears, Longaberger baskets, Santas…did I miss any?
