Hurricane Ike

Well, a break from blogging about quilting today.  What’s on our minds is Hurricane Ike and the Texas coast.  Our “winter haven” is a condo in Port Aransas, Texas.  Port Aransas is on Mustang Island, maybe 25 miles from Corpus Christi, and yesterday, if you had followed the projected path of Ike, it seemed to be directly on its way Port A.  Today the projected path is a little bit north, more to Port Lavaca, but given the size of the hurricane, I’m not sure that makes too much difference.  SIL Grace and family live in Lake Jackson, TX, just southwest of Houston, about nine miles from the Gulf.  Also way too close.

Here is a link in case you’d like to “visit” Port Aransas through my Port Aransas photo album.  I also have another album that’s my favorite — it contains photos I took during an early morning walk on the beach, almost exactly a year ago.  (Note:  To return to my web site from the photo albums, click on “Home”, then click on “Blog”.)  Port A is a place we dearly love, and we’re already looking forward to seeing all our other Winter Texan friends in January.  Besides all the wonderful people (from the Dakotas, Illinois, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc., etc.), Port Aransas has a bird sanctuary plus a smaller place called Paradise Pond, so this is a great place for bird watching.  Jim especially enjoys taking long walks on the beach.  We enjoy everything about Port A, so we are praying that all the staff down there, plus the other residents of the island, get to places of safety, and that our little home-away-from-home  (actually it’s a little condo in a big building) is still standing.

I was so afraid for the people who stayed on the islands down there. We received lots of evacuees up here in the northern part of Texas. Hopefully the mess can be cleaned up soon and life can go on. I feel so bad for those people who lost their homes.
