20,000th Visit Give-Away!!!
(9/15/08 The Give-Away is closed. Our winner is Linda!)
Sometime around 8:00 CDT last night, I had my 20,000th “hit” or visit! Certainly worthy of a give-away. As I am sure is true with most quilters, I have a full sewing room of items to choose from for my first-ever give-away. And as I am sure is also true with many people, I have a “gift shelf” of items I’ve picked up here and there, usually on sale, just to have a gift at the ready. And there they were — a pair of 8″ Gingher shears with the designer handles. I suspect they cleared these out because they’re probably last year’s handle design. For a little fun packing material, I’m also including one yard of the fabric I’ve already confessed to having bought miles of that I used in my Patchwork Times’ Labor Day Challenge. Plus I think the fabric and the scissors look fabulous together (and isn’t that what it’s all about???).
Here’s how to enter into the drawing. Since I’m giving away a duplicate of one my favorite tools (these Ginghers are wonderful), tell us about your favorite sewing/quilting tool, book, pattern, thread, pantograph (if you’re a longarmer), batting, doohickey – you get the idea. Make sure your web site or e-mail is available to me so I can contact the winner. You can add a post about the give-away on your web site if you wish, but it isn’t required. I’ll put your name in the bowl for adding a comment, and it’s only one entry per person. I’ll draw a name on Monday, September 15th. Good luck, and thanks for stopping by! (You might want to check back and see what other people’s favorites are too!)

Morning, Sue,
Wow, what a lovely Giveaway - cool scissors and that lovely fabric, too!!! Add me to the drawing, please!
I have a favorite book that I used to check out of the library on a regular basis until my friend Judith found a copy on e-bay and gave it to me for a gift. The book is “The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt in America” by Carrie A. Hall and Rose G. Kretsinger. It was published in 1935. All of the pictures are in black and white but there are lots of them and there are so many different blocks and quilt tops pictured plus their stories that the book is constant inspiration!! I’ll add a post on my blog about your Giveaway!

What a generous give away. My favorite quilting tool is my sewing machine. There is hardly a day that goes by that I don’t sew. On week ends I can sew up to 8 hours. I would be lost without my machine. I know this probably is not what you were looking for in an answer but it is the main and most important tool in my sewing room.

Wow, Does this make me #3? I just happened upon your website searching for some fusible web with a diamond design. I hope I win. I am going to bookmark this site and come back often. Thanks, Shersthreads

Cool Tool? I would not be with out my magnetic pin dish, actually a mecanics dish. Has a magnet that will hold pins in and can be “planted” on a magnetic surface. I love it best because I can toss it in with my stuff to go and not worry about losing a pin without covering it! They are about $5 at the auto parts stores. I have 2, one at my machine and one on my cutting table.
I love your blog, patterns and great ideas
Karen

My favorite book is the Thimbleberry book that has the “Holly Goose Chase” pattern in it. I hope to get started on a quilt. I got interested in quilting last Winter and “a special person” helped me with a project of a wall hanging, which I was able to complete before we headed back to Illinois. Since then I have joined a quilting club and find it very relaxing and a fun night out with the girls. My favorite tool is my sewing machine with my new 1/4th inch foot. Makes life much easier. Happy Quilting and looking forward to this Winter in Texas. Eileen

My favorite tool is a #10 crochet hook. I keep it by my machine at all times using it instead of a ripper or handy to feed fabric under pressure foot! Love the scissors and hope my name is drawn!!!

My favorite tool is you! I call you all the time when I am quilting. But, if you don’t count as a “Tool” then I’d have to go with the simple idea of using moleskin on the machine exactly a quarter inch from the needle. It helps me to guide my fabric straight (and I don’t have a 1/4 inch presser foot).

One of my favorite “tools” might be the 40% off coupons for Joanne Fabrics. But, otherwise I’d have to say the baby quilt book I have that doesn’t even have a binding on it because it’s been used so many times may be a close second. It’s held together with those big, black paper binder/clips!

Hi,
I love the scissors and material. Please enter me in your draw. What has become my favorite sewing tool is my computer. I love reading all the blogs and get so many ideas, patterns and tips. If I win I’m sure those scissors will be a favorite too.~Susan

Hi Sue,
I really like the new look to your website!!! And you giveaway idea is great fun–what a cool way to hear from quilters all over. I have a lot of favorite tools, so it was difficult to settle on one… so I chose my leather thimble. It is the most worn of all, but am unable to part with it and still pull it out to quilt with occasionally. It’s the one that won me a blue ribbon at the county and state fair!!! Thanks for posting the Daystitchers blocks–I like to share that info with distant family and friends. Take care. Joan

hiyall,
wow! gorgous fabric and adorable scissors! My favorite gadget is a little rooster timer. I have a picture of it on my blog. I call the timer ‘chicky baby’. chicky baby is my time manager. he goes up to 60 mins. I start the timer whenever I have a short time to quilt. I do something quilty everyday. sometimes its only 10 mins, sometimes it a couple of hours. chicky baby also reminds me to stand up after so long at the machine so my legs wont cramp up. CB is a cheap chick, cost only $1 at the local joann fabrics store. They have sold out but Im hoping they get more in, I have several friends who want one.
Keep On Stitch’n On!

Yeah! I love that packing material(fabric)! Too cute that it goes so nicely with the scissors! lol
My favorite tool for quilting… the internet! I have no local friends that quilt. Central Vermont doesn’t have that many options that are feasible for me. So… I get inspiration for keeping with it from bloggers like you and websites such as Quiltville and Stashbusters.. and I get free quilt block patterns from various sites. Without the internet I would probably have given up long ago!
Thank you for hosting the giveaway! Congratulations on your 20K+ visitors!!

Congratulations on your 20K + visitors! Way to go girl, quite a feat. My favorite tool is my computer. If I have a question or need suggestions on a pattern it is always close and someone can give me the info I need. But nothing compares to My 4H leaders, My mom and grandmother. Experience is the best tool. Susan

I love all my little gizmos and gadgets, but the transforming one for me was that rotary cutter! That changed my quilting life so much. No more templates and laboriously cutting out each piece…unless I feel like it!! I also love my companion angle ruler. And of course the computer to connect to everyone like-minded!!

For me to pick only one tool would be very tough…..but I’d have to pick my longarm as my most favorite…..bringing the quilt tops to life is such a rewarding experience for me. Congratulations on your 20000 hit to your websight, I enjoy coming here is see what you are up to.

Congratulations!!!!!!! I would say my one favorite tool would have to be my Quilt In A Day Flying Geese rulers. I have made the geese the other way at times but think they look better when using this method.
Love the ugly fabric and how your quilt turned out that you made using it. Peggy in SW Missouri

Hi Sue. I’m Nanette. Sandi sent me your way. I grew up with ginghers being almost scared in my home. My mom’s well cared for scissors were off limits unless I was sewing. I have great respect for them. One of my favorite tools? Hmm Probably my 2 1/2″ plastic template. I use that size more than anything else. I like using that size square in many of my quilts. I’d also say my reading glasses are a favorite (what would I do without them??) and last but not least my seam ripper. I have a love hate relationship with those things but I’m always glad I took the time to pick the stitches out when I make a boo boo.
Thanks!
